Treasure Island

The name of the book is named Treasure Island. This book is by Robert Louis Stevenson. It was first published in 1883. This story takes place in the 1700's. This book is told in first-person participant. There are three chief characters in this book:Jim Hawkins;Long John Silver;and Dr. Livesey.
An old sailor, calling himself "the captain" but really called Billy Bones, comes to lodge at the Admiral Benbow Inn on the English coast during the mid 1700s, paying the innkeeper's son, Jim Hawkins, a few pennies to keep a lookout for "seafaring men." One of these shows up, frightening Billy (who drinks far too much rum) into a stroke, and Billy tells Jim that his former shipmates covet the contents of his sea chest. After a visit from another man, Billy has another stroke and dies; Jim and his mother (his father has died only a few days before) unlock the sea chest, finding some money, a journal, and a map. The local physician, Dr. Livesey, deduces that the map is of an island where the pirate Flint buried a vast treasure. The district squire, Trelawney, proposes buying a ship and going after the treasure, taking Livesey as ship's doctor and Jim as cabin boy.Several weeks later, Trelawney sends for Jim and Livesey and introduces them to Long John Silver, a Bristol tavern-keeper whom he has hired as ship's cook. They also meet Captain Smollett, who tells them that he does not like the crew or the voyage, which it seems everyone in Bristol knows is a search for treasure. After taking a few precautions, however, they set sail for the distant island. During the voyage the first mate, a drunkard, disappears overboard. And just before the island is sighted, Jim overhears Silver talking with two other crewmen and realizes that he and most of the others are pirates and have planned a mutiny. Jim tells the captain, Trelawney, and Livesey, and they calculate that they will be seven to nineteen against the mutineers and must pretend not to suspect anything until the treasure is found, when they can surprise their adversaries. But after the ship is anchored, Silver and some of the others go ashore, and two men who refuse to join the mutiny are killed — one with so loud a scream that everyone realizes there can be no more pretense. Jim has impulsively joined the shore party, and now in running away from them he encounters a half-crazy Englishman, Ben Gunn, who tells him he was marooned here and can help against the mutineers in return for passage home and part of the treasure.Meanwhile Smollett, Trelawney, and Livesey, along with Trelawney's three servants and one of the other hands, Abraham Gray, abandon the ship and come ashore to occupy a stockade. The men still on the ship, led by the coxswain Israel Hands, run up the pirate flag. One of Trelawney's servants and one of the pirates are killed in the fight to reach the stockade, and the ship's gun keeps up a barrage upon them, to no effect, until dark, when Jim finds the stockade and joins them. The next morning Silver appears under a flag of truce, offering terms that Captain Smollett refuses, and revealing that another pirate has been killed in the night (by Ben Gunn, Jim realizes, although Silver does not). At Smollett's refusal to surrender the map, Silver threatens an attack, and, within a short while, the attack on the stockade is launched. After a battle, the surviving mutineers retreat, having lost six men, but two more of the captain's group have been killed and Smollett himself is badly wounded.

When Livesey leaves in search of Ben Gunn, Jim runs away without permission and finds Gunn's homemade boat. After dark, he goes out and cuts the ship adrift. The two pirates on board, Hands and O'Brien, interrupt their drunken quarrel to run on deck, but the ship — with Jim's boat in her wake — is swept out to sea on the ebb tide. Exhausted, Jim falls asleep in the boat and wakens the next morning, bobbing along on the west coast of the island, carried by a northerly current. Eventually, he encounters the ship, which seems deserted, but getting on board, he finds O'Brien dead and Hands badly wounded. He and Hands agree that they will beach the ship at an inlet on the northern coast of the island. But as the ship is finally beached, Hands attempts to kill Jim, and Jim shoots and kills him. Then, after securing the ship as well as he can, he goes back ashore and heads for the stockade. Once there, in utter darkness, he enters the blockhouse — to be greeted by Silver and the remaining five mutineers, who have somehow taken over the stockade in his absence.Silver and the others argue about whether to kill Jim, and Silver talks them down. He tells Jim that, when everyone found the ship was gone, the captain's party agreed to a treaty whereby they gave up the stockade and the map. In the morning Dr. Livesey arrives to treat the wounded and sick pirates, and tells Silver to look out for trouble when they find the site of the treasure. After he leaves, Silver and the others set out with the map, taking Jim along. Eventually they find the treasure cache — empty. Two of the pirates charge at Silver and Jim, but are shot down by Livesey, Gray, and Ben Gunn, from ambush. The other three run away, and Livesey explains that Gunn has long ago found the treasure and taken it to his cave.
In the next few days they load the treasure onto the ship, abandon the three remaining mutineers (with supplies and ammunition) and sail away. At their first port, where they will sign on more crew, Silver steals a bag of money and escapes. The rest sail back to Bristol and divide up the treasure. Jim says there is more left on the island, but he for one will not undertake another voyage to recover it.
The author was subjective in the story. He made Jim's dad dies so Jim has a lot of sympathy.
This book caused many emotions in me. I felt sad when Jim's dad died.I felt exited when fighting was going on.

Antigone

MY ANIMOTO
My book report is on the book Antigone by Peter Meineck and Paul Woodruff. This book was published in 2003. This story occurs in the past. There are 2 chief characters, they are: Antigone: daughter and sister of Oedipus; and Ismene: daughter and sister of Oedipus.
Antigone learns that both of her brothers are dead. Eteocles has been given a proper burial, but Creon, Antigone's uncle who has inherited the throne, has issued a royal edict banning the burial of Polyneices, who he believes was a traitor. Antigone defies the law, buries her brother, and is caught. When Creon locks her away in prison, she kills herself.Meanwhile, not realizing Antigone has taken her own life, the blind prophet Teiresias, Creon's son and Antigone's fiancĂ© Haemon, and the Chorus plead with Creon to release her. Creon finally relents, but in an instance of too-late-timing, finds her dead in her jail cell. Out of despair, Haemon and Creon’s wife have by now also killed themselves, and Creon is left in distress and sorrow.
The author(s) appears to be subjective. The author(s) is because he/they made Antigone kill herself when she was imprisoned.
This book caused only a few of emotions in me. I felt sad when Antigone killed herself and when the others also killed themselves. I was also made more aware of the world when i realized they killed themselves because of how cruel the world has been for them. this story has an enduring theme because is a amazing tragic story.

The Hunger Games

My Animoto Video
My book report is on the book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. This book was published in 2008. This story occurs in the future. The story is told in first-person participant.
There are 2 chief characters in the story. They are: Katniss Everdeen, a 16 year old girl who does anything to feed her family and is chosen for the games; Peeta Mellark, a 16 year old boy that is the son of a baker, a stocky well feed kid that is chosen for the games.
The story begins with Katniss telling you about the day of the reaping. Explaining what it is all about. As the reaping starts Katniss has thought about her chance of being chosen and her sisters chance but she doubts her sister being chosen. When a lady (Effie Trinket) pulls the name for the girls Katniss is very surprised at the name that is pulled, her sister Primrose. Katniss is very shocked and sad, so she volunteers to take her place. Now it is the guys turn and the name that is chosen is Peeta Malark. After the reaping Katniss and Peeta get on a train and ride to the capitol. During the ride they interact with Haymitch (their mentor) and he helps them on surviving. When they get to the capitol they meet their stylist, Katniss' stylist Cinna is different from all of the people in the capitol. He designs Katniss' and Peeta's costume for the entrance of the tributes. after the entrance they had a interview and Peeta says that he had a crush on Katniss because he knows this will get him and her a chance in the games. After the interview they have to get some sleep because the games are the next day. When they wake up and eat they get ready for the games they have their tribute suits on and the are ready they say there last goodbyes to their stylist and Haymitch then they are raised up into the arena. After they wait 60 seconds the games have started. Katniss runs as far as possible, then the gamemakers sends her back by making a forest fire. She gets out of danger with only one burn then she set herself in a tree to rest. As the games go on she decides to kill some tributes with tracker jacker bees (venomous bees), only one dies and Katniss takes her weapons for her own. During that attempt she gets stung herself and she has hallucinations and she saw Peeta, he was saving her live from the other tributes. Then she became unconscious. She wakes up healed from her tracker jacker injuries because of the help of another tribute from district 11 named Rue. She and Rue became allies. They gathered food for each other slept by each other until days later Rue was killed. Later on in the games Claudius Templesmith ( a gamemaker ) announces that there can be two tributes instead of one but they have to be from the same district, then she starts looking for Peeta. She finds him and they find a cave to go to so she can try to heal his wound. While they are in the cave they are sparking up the whole "in love" thing. Once again Claudius speaks, he says that there will be a feast with things that the remaining tributes need to survive.Katniss says she is going, but Peeta doesn't want Katniss to risk her life for him. She drugs Peeta with sleeping syrup so she can go to the feast. She makes it back with a gash on her forehead, and after a while they are healed (not completely). There are now 5 tributes remaining after the feast, but after the next couple of days 2 more dies so it is only 3 more tributes left: Peeta; Katniss; and another tribute Cato. The gamemakers drive them together by placing vicious animals after them. Peeta and Katniss climb on top of a giant horn in the arena (the cornucopia). Cato is also up there and Peeta fights him and throws him off to be eaten by the animals. After 3 days he still doesn't die so Katniss shot him to put him out of his misery. Just then Claudius announces that the rules have been changed and there could be only one victor. Katniss decides if both of them dies there will not be a victor (and they can't have that) so they put some poison berries in their mouth. As soon as they do that Claudius yells stop and they spit the berries out, and he announces the there is two winner from district 12. Finally she wins the games with Peeta and they go and get replenished. Katniss and Peeta goes back to their home (District 12) wealthy and she thinking about when is the next time she could  be with Peeta.
The author is being subjective in the story. For example in the book he make Peeta and Katniss lovers so they can get a lot of sympathy and help from the sponsors in the capitol.
This book only caused a few emotions in me. I felt exited when the reaping began till the finish. I was also made aware of the world when I found out that this is supposed to be this world in the future. The characters in this story seemed believable. I could not relate to them because I don't have the same abilities. This story has an enduring theme because it is very exiting.
